Overpopulation

Is the World Overpopulated?

According to the U.S. Census web site on population, as of September, 2021, the world's population is almost 7.787 billion.
That's a lot of people. So, to get my arms around that number, I asked myself:
if we stood all the people in the world in one big square, standing 3 feet (1 yard or about 0.9 meters) apart,
how long would one side of the square be? Care to take a guess?

All 7.8 billion people on the planet would fit in a big square whose sides are about 50.1 miles.
50.1 square miles represents about 0.000087% of the earth's land surface.

50.1 miles squared is approximately 2,510 square miles. The state of Delaware is 2,489 square miles.
So, the entire world's population would fit in a space slightly greater than (0.08%) the state of Delaware.

To put that in perspective, check out Delaware highlighted in red.

On a world map, Delaware would show up as
a very tiny (if not imperceptible) dot.
